Meet our Staff
Dr. Ashton Kane
Dr. Ashton S. Kane graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. Dr. Kane and her husband Larry make their home in Keene with their three boys, Devin, Griffin, Aidan and their English Bulldog ""Griswold.""
Having practiced in this small community for over 20 years, Dr. Kane enjoys the opportunity to know her clients and patients on both a personal and a professional level. She appreciates the trust her clients show in allowing her to care for that special part of their family.
Dr. Katie Velez
Dr. Katie Velez graduated from Washington State University and Utah State University in May of 2017. She has worked for Westside since she was 16 and is excited to be back in the Keene area. She lives in Nelson with her fiance and numerous pets including a yorkie mix, a mini schnauzer, a sheltie, and five cats! Prior to veterinary school, she spent time in Namibia volunteering for the Cheetah Conservation Foundation and a game reserve in South Africa. In her spare time she enjoys camping, running , and is an avid fitness enthusiast.
Denine has been at Westside Animal Hospital since Dr. Kane opened her practice in April of 2007. Before coming to work in the veterinary field, Denine worked in the human dental field for over 19 years. Denine brings a lengthy customer service background, which is a strong contributor to the high level of service we strive to provide to our clients and patients. Currently the Office Manager, she also serves as a client service representative and a veterinary assistant. Denine shares her home with her husband Steve, daughter Savannah, son Joey, and two spunky rat terriers, “Artie” and “Frankie.”
Trish has been part of the Westside team since August 2008. Trish is our morning receptionist. She will greet you at the front desk with a smile. She is proud of the compassionate care we offer here at Westside Animal Hospital. She lives in Keene with her husband Steve, their three children and their maltese “Maddie.”
Kim Spash, CVT
Kim has been at Westside Animal Hospital since Dr. Kane opened her practice in April of 2007. Kim serves as one of our veterinary technicians. She prides herself on caring for each patient as if it were a member of her own family. She especially enjoys attending continuing education meetings and advancing her knowledge of the science of veterinary medicine. A Connecticut native, Kim and Ed have lived in New Hampshire for seven years and share their home with a French Brittany Spaniel “Rocco.”
Rebecca Thayer, CVT, Fear Free Certified
Rebecca has been working in the veterinary field for over twenty years. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor's degree in biology and shortly thereafter passed the Veterinary Technician Certification exam. Rebecca has a special interest in animal behavior and strives to make every patient's visit as stress free as possible. She recently became Fear Free Certified in order to help with this goal. Rebecca and her husband live on a small farm in Swanzey which they share with a variety of furry and feathered friends.
Abby joined Westside Animal Hospital in the spring of 2017. She is a Keene native who has had a lifelong love of animals. You may recognize her face from Fast Friends where she used to work taking care of the Greyhounds and watching over the dogs at daycare. Keeping patients calm and comfortable is of the utmost importance to her. Abby shares her home with two adopted dogs and a trouble making cat named Milo.
Megan started at Westside Animal Hospital in April 2017. She is attending Westfield State University in Westfield, MA after taking some time off from her studies. However she will still be here from time to time helping to care for your pets. Megan was born and raised in Keene and recently expanded her family with the addition of her puppy Zoey.
Leora began working as an intern at Westside Animal Hospital in 2017. In 2018 she became a permanent part of the Westside team. She is an avid animal lover with years of experience caring for horses and other furry critters. Leora strives to encounter everyone with a smile and has great compassion for the animals she meets. Leora was born in Keene and shares her home with her wonderful dog Nala and her horse Trooper.
