Dr. Kane has been a mainstay in the Monadnock Region since she began her practice in Keene in 1993 upon graduating from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine. She opened Westside Animal Hospital in 2007 with a mission to provide top-notch care for her patients and a desire to get to know their families. She has a strong belief in community and truly enjoys working with animals. Dr. Kane lives in Keene with her husband Larry and their two French Bulldogs. When not at Westside, Dr. Kane enjoys reading, walking her dogs, and taking road trips to visit their three adult sons.
Dr. Katie Velez, DVM
Dr. Katie Velez graduated from Washington State University and Utah State University in May of 2017. She has worked for Westside since she was 16 and is excited to be back in the Keene area. She lives in Nelson with her husband and 1-year-old son. They live next door to her husbands’ family farm where they have, horses, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and sometimes pigs. As a family, they have numerous pets including a Yorkie mix named Maggie, a mini schnauzer named Oscar, a sheltie named Marlin, five cats (Olive, Willow, Annabelle, Gin, & Juice,) 3 goats (Willie, Waylon, and Merle,) and a horse named Finnegan. Prior to veterinary school, she spent time in Namibia volunteering for the Cheetah Conservation Foundation and a game reserve in South Africa. In her spare time, she enjoys going on the boat with her family and friends, riding her horse, playing with her animals, and is an avid fitness enthusiast.
Leora began working as an intern at Westside Animal Hospital in 2017. In 2018 she became a permanent part of the Westside team. She is an avid animal lover with years of experience caring for horses and other furry critters. Leora strives to encounter everyone with a smile and has great compassion for the animals she meets. Leora was born in Keene and shares her home with her wonderful dog Nala and her horse Trooper.
Denine has been at Westside Animal Hospital since Dr. Kane opened her practice in April of 2007. Before coming to work in the veterinary field, Denine worked in the human dental field for over 19 years. Denine brings a lengthy customer service background, which is a strong contributor to the high level of service we strive to provide to our clients and patients. Currently the Office Manager, she also serves as a client service representative and a veterinary assistant. Denine shares her home with her husband Steve, daughter Savannah, son Joey, and two spunky rat terriers, “Artie” and “Frankie.”
Megan started at Westside Animal Hospital in April 2017. She is attending Westfield State University in Westfield, MA after taking some time off from her studies. However, she will still be here from time to time helping to care for your pets. Megan was born and raised in Keene and recently expanded her family with the addition of her puppy Zoey.
Kim Spash, CVT
Kim has been at Westside Animal Hospital since Dr. Kane opened her practice in April of 2007. Kim serves as one of our veterinary technicians. She prides herself on caring for each patient as if it were a member of her own family. Kim is a Connecticut native, Kim and Ed have lived in New Hampshire since 2005 and share their home with their dog Murray. Outside of work, Kim is often hiking with Murray.
Trish has been part of the Westside team since August 2008. Trish is our morning receptionist. She will greet you at the front desk with a smile. She is proud of the compassionate care we offer here at Westside Animal Hospital. She lives in Keene with her husband Steve, their three children, and their Maltese “Maddie.”

Abby joined Westside Animal Hospital in the spring of 2017. She is a Keene native who has had a lifelong love of animals. Keeping patients calm and comfortable is of the utmost importance to her.
Abby shares her home with two adopted dogs and a trouble-making cat named Milo. In her spare time, Abby enjoys walking her dogs around Spofford lake.
Rebecca Thayer, CVT
Rebecca has been working in the veterinary field for over twenty years and has been at Westside Animal Hospital since 2014. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and shortly thereafter passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam. Rebecca has a special interest in both animal behavior and critical care medicine. She became Fear Free Certified in order to better understand how to make veterinary care less stressful for patients. She satisfies her love for critical care by working part-time as an intensive care nurse at the Veterinary Emergency and Speciality Hospital in Massachusetts. Rebecca and her husband live on a small farm in Swanzey which they share with a variety of furry and feathered friends.
Molly Harvey, CVT
Molly started at Westside in 2021. Molly is one of our veterinary technicians and has been a New Hampshire resident her whole life. In her spare time she enjoys spending time outdoors or playing with her two dogs, Sydney and Harper.
